Jumbe Prep is a program that partners with community colleges to provide a comprehensive academic planning and support program for African American males ages 17 - 24.

The program includes:

  • Room & Board

Students will live in fully-furnished homes near a partnering college. Each house will consist of five (5) students. Meals are provided daily.

  • Tuition, Books & Supplies

Tuition, books and supplies are included. Each student will receive a laptop computer.

  • Academic Planning

OnTrack is our academic program. It is designed to:

(1)
assess the student's current academic level;
(2)
develop a curriculum to strengthen his weaknesses; and
(3)
map out an educational plan that will result in acceptance into a major university.

Personal Skills Training focuses on developing the student's personal skills.  

Topics include:

  • Leadership
  • Personal Finances
  • Goal Setting  

Professional Skills Training exposes the students to different professional opportunities and teaches them how to be self-sufficient.

Topics include:

  • Career Choices
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Entrepreneurialship – each group will be required to start-up and maintain a business.

Support System

All students will have a full support system consisting of the following:

  • Academic counselor (college staff member)
  • Jumbe mentor
  • Roommates
  • Skills training instructors
  • Teachers
  • Jumbe partners
